Valveless Brass Instruments
Some brass instruments do not have valves. Instead, the musician can move a slide to change notes (like on a trombone), and in some cases they can only move their lips to change notes (like on a bugle).
The Trombone is a lower-sounding brass instrument that uses a slide to change notes, much like a penny whistle does.

The Bugle is a cousin of the trumpet. It doesn't have valves or a slide. Like all other brass players, a bugle player changes notes by changing the position of their lips. Unlike other brass players, this is the only way they can change notes. Therefore, the bugle cannot play all of the notes like most brass instruments.
