Valved Brass instruments
Most brass instruments change pitches using valves. The valves redirect air through different lengths of tubing, which lets the instrument change different notes. Valves can be pressed down one at at time, or in different combinations, to use different amounts of tubing.

The Trumpet is the highest and brightest sounding instrument in the brass family. It has 3 piston valves.

The Horn sounds lower and more mellow than the trumpet. It has 3 or 4 rotary valves.

The Baritone (aka:
Euphonium) sounds even lower than the horn or trumpet. It has 3 or 4 piston valves. |
The Tuba is the biggest and lowest brass instrument. It has 3, 4 or 5 piston or rotary valves.
